Fall Foliage Cruise 2002

Rain failed to dampen spirits at this year's Fall Foliage Cruise. The Oklahoma Classic Chevy Club (Tulsa) hosted this year's event which was held at Fountainhead Lodge on Lake Eufaula.

The first group met at Interstate 40 and Choctaw Road for a 9:30 a.m. departure. The group was led by John and Kay Lynn Dragoo. It included:Charles and Marilyn Stookey, Linda and David Reeds; Rudy and Gloria Escalera, Ken Buchanan, David and Mahala Jones, and Mel and Rustyne Harris.(hope we didn't forget someone)

Tom and Teresa Linn caught up with the group in Okmulgee. Ken and Cici Monroe arrived in time for dinner Friday night. Curtis and Key Welch arrived at the lodge later Friday night.

Our group was just about alone at the lodge. In days gone by Fountainhead was considered palatial with its sweeping front and back, spacious meeting rooms and beautiful lake views. The views are the same
but the lodge has gone downhill somewhat, literally.

Those whose rooms were on the parking lot side noticed a distinct tilt in the floor toward the window. Other than showing its age, the lodge provided an excellent location for the cruise.

OCCC club members organized a great cruise that started out with dinner in Henryetta at Nelson. The food was very good and well worth another trip. However, don't sit anywhere near Tom and Teresa Linn. They ordered first but were served last. After dinner we returned to the lodge for conversation and games.

Saturday began cloudy and cold with drizzle. We took off on a lengthy cruise throughout the area. Foliage, for once, cooperateed and put on a display color. We made a stop at Robbers Cave State Park and wandered around for about an hour.

Dinner on the cuise was in Krebs at Petes. Italian food is served family style with hearty helpings for all. Again, though, the Linn table was beset with bad luck. Their food was late and they were served only one plate of spaghetti while other tables had three or even four plates on the first serving.

On other club events Larry and Annette Myers have had a lock on bad service/bad food. Looks like the Linns are giving them a run for their money.

The day ended with more fellowship at the lodge. A highlight was the appearance of Elvis. Other club members eventually took a turn at the Karaoke machine, some people told jokes and others stories from different events they had attended. There were door prizes for everyone and and we have to say once again Thank You to our host club from Tulsa.Hopefully next news letter will have a few pictures from this event.

Sunday dawned cloudy but no rain was falling. Two groups headed for Oklahoma City. One group took I-40 for a straight shot home but another decided to two-lane-it back. The Stookeys, Welches and Linns cruised Highway 9 on their journey to central Oklahoma. The Linns lost a nut and bolt from their clutch linkage in Seminole. Curtis and Tom spent an hour making parts purchased at Wal-Mart work. The day ended with dinner in Norman at Santa Fe Steak House. The Linn curse did not hold this time. Our server was excellent. The food was good, hot and plentiful. But best of all was the converesation.

That's what these cruises are all about - fellowship. This event was top notch in that category. Next year's event will be held either somewhere in Texas or perhaps in Eureka Springs, Ark. Keep tuned for further details.
